In order to keep your property value at it’s highest and the different items in your home operating properly, here is a list of items that should be checked monthly. I’ve found that using a calender that sends me a message helps to remember to check the items on the list. Usually the items are entered for a year or more at a time and I receive an email a day to two before the item actually needs to be checked.
1. Check the air filters for the air conditioning. The filters are in the cold air return of your air handler of the air conditioning system. When the filters get dirty or clogged it is very difficult for air to pass through. The result is the air handler has to work harder when the air flow is cut off.
2. Smoke detectors – These should be checked for proper operation on a monthly basis. Most people forget about the smoke detectors until they start making a crazy little chirp sound. Usually when they start to chirp, they are telling you the battery is low. Occasionally, though when they chirp, the battery is replaced and the chirping continues. Then it’s time to replace the smoke detector.
