As the week started, I was planning on starting with an existing customer. She called and asked that the baseboards and door frames be painted in her home.

When I arrived she actually had a large list of items, of which some I’m still working on.

After completing the painting of the baseboards and door frames, I went on to check out the door bell. It stopped working so I started checking it out. I started with the transformer which measured the correct voltage. The button seemed to work, so that left only the door bell itself. Normally one would check the most logical item when troubleshooting. Why I didn’t go directly to the door bell, I’m not sure. I always expect the unexpected. Anyway, as it turned out the chime had fallen off the door bell as the rubber grommets had worn out. Seem like the heat in this arid Arizona desert can cause problems, especially when the house had sat empty for nearly a year.

After the door bell, there were some electrical problems. One breaker, a tandem 20 Amp Breaker kept kicking off late in the afternoon. The breaker box sits on the west side of the house so it absorbs all the afternoon sun. One side of the breaker would reset periodically, and when trying to reset it, it wouldn’t reset. Common wear and tear on the breaker will cause this. After the sun set and the panel cooled off, then the breaker would reset without a problem. The reason this breaker was so important is the fact a refrigerator was being powered by it, and if the breaker reset without the homeowner’s knowledge, all the items in the refrigerator would spoil. After replacing the circuit breaker, cialis sale I was then told a GFI outlet wasn’t resetting properly. Checking it , the homeowner was correct and the outlet was replaced.

Another item on the list was to paint the gate. The homeowner wanted the gate to be blue.

This isn’t quite blue yet, but I forgot to capture an original picture before starting. This picture already has a primer coat. The gate had been varnished and a stain applied on top of the varnish. Using a belt sander the varnish was quickly removed. Both sides of the gate were painted the nicest blue a gate could be. Sorry no picture of the finished product. Perhaps later in the week.

After the gate was finished it was time to move on to the garage door. The door is a wood door and the same thing happened to it. Someone had applied a stain over the already existing varnish. The homeowner purchased a stain finish with polyurethane so the varnish and the old stain had to be removed. I started on the sanding before getting the picture, but you can see what the finished looked like. The belt sander was great for cutting the stain and old varnish, using a 50 grit sanding belt. The old stain and varnish peeled right off the flat surfaces. The little nooks and crannies were a different story however. After determining a scraper would take the finish off, I next tried a 1/4 sheet pad sander. It worked great for a while until I ran out of sandpaper. Even though I was using 80 grit paper, it would wear down or tear about every two panels. The door isn’t finished yet, but most of the stripping is complete as you can see here.

Tune in tomorrow to see the bright blue gate and the finished garage door.
